Welcome! St. Cecilia Church has served as a spiritual beacon to East Harlem for more than a century. Located in the heart of El Barrio on East 106th Street, this cherished landmark is known for its handsome architecture and historic role ministering to the diverse populations who settled East Harlem. The parish invites all to worship and participate in our many events and activities.
Community services include a food pantry, Narcotics Anonymous, Justicia en el Barrio, HIV Momentum Project, and more.
Restore Saint Cecilia's Campaign
The parish is waging a major capital campaign to preserve this historical treasure and community resource, dear to the hearts of many Latinos and all who found at St. Cecilia's a spiritual home and parochial education, including African Americans and earlier parishioners from Ireland, Germany and Italy.
Urgently needed roof replacement and related masonry repairs will be undertaken under the guidance of the NY Archdiocese, architect Arthur J. Sikula Associates and the NY Landmarks Conservancy.
St Cecilia in City-wide Open House
St. Cecilia’s Roman Catholic Church in East Harlem to Participate in City-wide Open House On Sunday, May 20, from 1 to 3 PM, , St. Cecilia’s Church in East Harlem will join with hundreds of other historic churches and synagogues to participate in The New York Landmark Conservancy Second Sacred Sites Open House Weekend.
St. Cecilia Church Awarded Historic Preservation Grants
St. Cecilia Church, a renowned landmark of East Harlem's historic El Barrio district, has been awarded two grants by The New York Landmarks Conservancy (NYLC) totaling $80,000 and an additional grant for $200,000 from New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.
First Annual Dinner Dance 2011
The Commander John Shea/Saint Cecilia Schools Alumni will hold their 1st Annual Dinner Dance on Saturday, April 16, 2011. Proceeds of the dinner dance will go toward restoring the St. Cecilia Church roof.Music will be provided by a D.J. The entrance fee is $50 per person and proceeds will be added to matching grants for restoring the church's roof. Additional donations are appreciated. The dinner dance will be preceded by a 5:30 PM Mass at St. Cecilia Church. Mass participants will walk to the Cooke Center starting at 6:30 PM.
2010 Archdiocesan Stewardship Appeal
Four representatives of St. Cecilia’s Church attended a Volunteer Recognition Dinner, hosted in late June by Archbishop Timothy M. Dolan to celebrate the success of the 2010 Archdiocesan Stewardship Appeal. The program raised more than $17 million from 60,000 individual gifts in donations and pledges.
School Reunion 2010
Calling all St. Cecilia's School and Commander John J. Shea School alumni. You are invited to an all year reunion this coming April 16-17th. The 2010 Reunion Committee is planning to a two day event, a Friday meet and greet for those who can attend and a Saturday, reunion complete with a 5:30 PM Mass and sit down dinner.
